In light of the UK's Online Safety Act 2023, Hayling Island Camera Club (HICC) is committed to ensuring a safe and respectful online environment for all members and the wider community. This policy outlines our approach to online safety, particularly concerning the use of digital platforms, social media, and the handling of photographic content.
• Protect members, especially children and vulnerable individuals, from exposure to illegal or harmful online content.
• Ensure responsible use of digital platforms and social media associated with HICC.
• Comply with the obligations set forth in the Online Safety Act 2023.
This policy applies to all HICC members, volunteers, and anyone representing or acting on behalf of the club. It covers all online activities, including but not limited to:
• Posting or sharing content on HICC's official website and social media channels.
• Engaging in online discussions or forums related to HICC activities.
• Sharing photographs or videos taken during HICC events or activities.
Members are expected to:
• Refrain from sharing or engaging with content that is illegal, harmful, or inappropriate.
• Respect the privacy and rights of others when posting images or personal information.
• Obtain explicit consent before sharing photographs or videos of individuals, especially children.
• Use respectful and considerate language in all online communications.
Given the nature of our club, special attention is required when handling photographic content:
• Consent: Always secure written consent from individuals before capturing or sharing their images. For minors, obtain consent from a parent or guardian.
• Storage: Store digital images securely to prevent unauthorized access or misuse.
• Sharing: Avoid sharing images that could be considered exploitative or inappropriate.
HICC is dedicated to safeguarding children and vulnerable individuals:
• Follow the NSPCC guidelines on photographing and filming children to mitigate risks associated with misuse of images.
• Ensure that any images of children are appropriate and taken in the context of HICC activities.
• Avoid including personal information of children when posting images online.
Members should report any online safety concerns to the HICC committee, including:
• Exposure to illegal or harmful content.
• Inappropriate online behavior by members or external parties.
• Breaches of this policy.
HICC acknowledges its responsibility under the Online Safety Act 2023 to:
• Implement systems to reduce risks of illegal activity on our online platforms.
• Promptly remove illegal content when identified.
• Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential online harms.
This policy will be reviewed annually or when significant changes occur in legislation or club activities. The HICC committee is responsible for monitoring compliance and making necessary adjustments.
